Half Star are an exciting new alternative rock trio. With shimmering melodies, distorted acoustics and splashy drums they haunt an untapped space between shoegaze and folk. The band formed in late October 2023 and has quickly gained recognition for their distinctive sound and authentic approach to music. Guaranteed to be one of the most unique and affecting bands you'll see this year.
Nostromo is a new five-piece fusion group blending the spirit of psychedelic jazz pioneers like Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders with the intensity of jazz-rock classics such as Mahavishnu Orchestra. Infused with a rich array of world music influences, spanning Brazil to India, the sound channels artists from Chick Corea to Zakir Hussain.
Nostromo’s repertoire ranges from sprawling, intricate epics with complex structures and extensive solos to delicate slow pieces where baroque harmonies intertwine with McLaughlin style picking motions. The music often shifts from pensive and brooding to fiery and apocalyptic, carrying a menacing spiritual gravity.
Zach Thompson is a songwriter currently based in London. His work incorporates a wide array of influences from the folk and literary canon. His songs are rich with meditations on philosophical, political and spiritual themes, displayed on his upcoming EP ‘Algebra Parable’ which is scheduled for release in June.
He will be accompanied by Shem Fillmore a multi-instrumentalist who draws from the social music of recent traditions, as well as mystical threads from the baroque-era and more contemporary influences.
Emma Tea
Self-taught, London-based songwriter and singer Emma Tea, has gone from strength to strength since arriving on the scene in 2022 with her compelling and personal alt-pop, and even venturing recently into some dnb. Jodie Bryant, who has hosted Emma a few times at her ‘New Music Monday’ gigs at The Ned, praises her artistry: ‘Have loved Emma’s development & growth as an artist over the last year. She feels like she’s found her sound with hints of different genres amongst her delicate and haunting vocal - LOVE ‘get what you deserve.’
The multi-instrumentalist has honed her craft through 12 impressive singles and EPs, citing a diverse range of musical influences - from her Father, to Ellie Goulding, to Kenya Grace, to Billie Eilish- resulting in a sound that is both unique and refreshing. Stating that ‘authenticity is key’ and unafraid to draw from personal experience, it is no surprise that Emma Tea has garnered a dedicated fanbase through her active online presence and captivating live shows. Emma will also be releasing her new single, ‘so sick’, on 3rd April!
