Only Real
+ Shame (DJ Set)
Only Real first started releasing music over ten years ago - his uniquely raw and intimate vocals combined with woozy guitars, catchy soaring choruses and down to earth stories of youth soon landed him international success and a major label record deal. He sold out shows worldwide from Tokyo to the USA to Shanghai to Moscow to the UK and Europe. He also received critical acclaim, front covers and long term editorial support from - BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, The Guardian, NME, i-D, Vice, The Fader, The Telegraph, Beat Mag, Clash, Line of Best Fit, Nylon, Dummy to name a few and he has continued to racked up millions of streams - all from an era where DSP listenership was just starting out.
Niall’s critically acclaimed debut Album 'Jerk At The End Of The Line' was recorded between Atlanta with Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Washed Out, Animal Collective, Deerhunter) and Dan Carey in Streatham (Fontaines DC, Black Midi, Kae Tempest, Sia, Black Country New Road) and has become a favourite to many around the world.
Then all of a sudden Niall went quiet and for the last 9 years seemingly fell off the side of the earth. No music, no gigs, no social media. Many were left confused with hundreds of YouTube comments and reddit threads speculating where he had gone. Nothing - until now.
Niall never actually stopped making music behind the scenes - he has been busy songwriting and composing for brands including Marc Jacobs, McDonald’s and TikTok as well as composing the trailer music for “Invisible Beauty” a critically acclaimed documentary about fashion pioneer Bethann Hardison which was at Sundance 2023.
He is now ready to bring back Only Real and is armed with new music as fresh and lyrically resonant as ever.
His new EP released in February 2025 has demonstrated his knack of writing tracks bursting with personality and wit, his way with an infectious melody still present after several years away from music. It has already seen much critical acclaim, with support from DIY, Dork, Clash, Earmilk, The New Cue, Les Inrocks and more, whilst DSP support came from Spotify with all 4 singles included on New Music Friday, Fresh Finds, Our Generation and the Indie List as Only Real’s unique sound was introduced to a new generation of listeners. It’s effortless, charismatic, sun-kissed psych-pop that retains the personality and charm of his album ‘Jerk At The End Of The Line’, released back in 2015.
