"Unstoppable dance music." - The New York Times
Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou is one of Africa’s most innovative and influential orchestras, shaping the sound of West Africa.
A dynamic fusion of hard afro-funk, driving afrobeat, and deep afro-Latin and Cuban grooves, their unique sound ruled the dance floors of 1970s urban Benin.
Formed in 1964, the group quickly became the powerhouse of Benin’s music scene, crafting a sound as innovative as it was infectious—earning them a place alongside legends like Fela Kuti, Manu Dibango, and Ernesto Djédjé, with whom they often shared the stage.
Their music remains as powerful today as ever—a deep, polyrhythmic groove that transcends generations.
