Sabrina Kennedy weaves rock pop & RnB around stadium-class vocals, and laces her defiant, disarming lyrics with witchcraft and mythology. Her brooding, anthemic debut single ‘Hold Tight’ had the pop feels to be synched on ‘Love Island’, but her sound took a wilder turn on her ‘Wheel of the Year’ EP, feted by Kerrang! who charted her tracks alongside Royal Blood and Metallica, and dubbed her an ‘alt.pop witch’.
Stereogum charted her next to Arlo Parks, and Wonderland called the EP "a display of pure unapologetic individuality by a refreshingly honest, soulful and powerful artist, with a voice as strong as her message".
Adopted at birth, raised near Salem (USA), Kennedy came to the UK to record, and stayed. She shot her witch-burning ‘Puritan’ video on England’s North East coast: “They burnt women there 40 years before Salem! ‘Puritan’ is for my ancestors. We’ve been burnt at the stake for centuries.”
Sabrina launched the EP with a headline show at London’s Grace and opened for Alabama 3 at London’s o2 Forum and Newcastle University.
She’s been back in the studio conjuring new songs, including a collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Youth (Killing Joke). The forthcoming track has already been described by one critic as “a dynamite rollercoaster, heavy as Hole but with a chorus that sticks like gum. It's a serious statement of intent, so take note, this witch is flying your way.”
