SandraiseR is a hard rocking blues power trio concentrating on the music of Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher with some occasional pieces from other blues / rock artists. The band is based in North Wales and Merseyside. Whilst the band doesn't consider itself to be a tribute band, it absolutely is a tribute to the work of Hendrix and Gallagher without mimicking or trying to look like Jimi or Rory.
Steve Pendle, the guitar-playing force that is Sandraiser, will however play the guitar with his teeth, behind his back and between his legs. No guitars will be burnt or mistreated at a SandraiseR performance though! Steve's and the band's approach to Rory and Jimi is as the great men did it, playing off the cuff, jamming and making each song a new entity at each gig, but don’t worry you will always get all the vital elements every time. The name SandraiseR is a reference to a lyric by both Rory and Jimi.
Steve started SandraiseR 6 years ago to play Jimi and Rory songs and blues music. He is a fiery guitarist whose style epitomises both Jimi's and Rory’s playing. His ability to create something so like the original work, as well as all the vocals, is a delight to behold and a staggering feat. Whether it’s true blues or wild psychedelic rock Steve is authentic in sound and demeanour. Steve is self taught from the age of 9, and progressed as a member of the band Pocket Venus to recording singles getting worldwide airplay including on Radio One. In true blues style, just as the band were on the verge of bigger things, Steve left to go back to his roots and play psychedelic blues music from the gut.
Steve's supporting cast in the traditional three-piece is a choice of two drummers and a bass guitarist. Jonny Brutal, drummer, has recorded four albums with his heavy metal band Brutal Deluxe, around the turn of the century. He has toured with the Rory tribute band Sinnerboy for many years (two with Nick - see below), and is in much demand as a studio and touring drummer.
Jon joined SandraiseR in January 2023, after helping the band out late in 2022. If Jon isn't on the stool, you will find 'Big' Al 'Catraz' Haughton on drums. Al has played blues and heavy rock for some 45 years - 26 years in top Merseyside blues outfit The Bumper Blues Band, and stints with bike rally circuit legends Doghouse, and AOR outfit Fugitive, with whom he played a rock festival in Ibiza (aged 56!) and featured on their 2019 album Awakening.
Nick Skelson started playing bass at 17 and is self taught. Nick joined SandraiseR in June 2022 after a period of covering occasional gigs, and toured with Rory tribute band Sinnerboy (two years with Jonny) and Welsh/Aussie bluesman Gwyn Ashton. Nick and Jon have played together since 2009 on and off in various bands, and Nick and Al have been together in a couple of bands.
SandraiseR plays heart and soul, and authentically reproduces the spirit of Rory and Jimi from the 60s and 70's
