This April, we’re celebrating South African Freedom Day with a vibrant live performance honouring “The father of South African jazz” alongside his former percussionist and drummer, Francis Fuster.

One of the world’s finest and most distinctive horn players, Hugh Masekela was a pioneer of jazz in South Africa and a campaigner against apartheid in exile, using his music and live performances to attack the apartheid regime.

His performances on trumpet and flugelhorn mixed jazz with South African styles and music from across the African continent and diaspora.

World-class percussionist Francis Fuster, known for his dynamic work with Hugh Masekela himself and playing on Paul Simon’s Graceland, and his band, some of the world’s finest musicians, come to our stage for an evening celebrating a Jazz Cafe favourite.

This event is strictly 18+ with ID required on arrival at the venue.
