He was recently awarded the 2015 ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for excellence in music journalism & has appeared on Late Night with David Letterman TV show five times.

    Tom Russell's new record of originals, "Folk Hotel," was released Sept 8, 2017. This followed the release in May 2017 of his Ian and Sylvia Tribute "Play One More - The Songs of Ian and Sylvia," which was the #1 played Folk DJ record in the world in June 2017.

    "Folk Hotel" includes 13 new Tom Russell originals and a duet of Bob Dylan's "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" with Joe Ely. Augie Meyers, Eliza Gilkyson, Redd Volkaert, and Joel Guzman also appear on the record.

    "Folk Hotel is almost certainly the best Americana album of 2017 and the lyrics are some of the very best of the last decade. Tom Russell is one of the key songwriters of the last twenty years or so. He must now be included on any list of great songwriters which would also include important people like Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams"
