About

“Vortex Lates” is a new series of events taking place in our downstairs bar from 10:30-12am every Friday or Saturday. A new late-night jazz hang for Dalston where you can grab a drink and listen to some of the best improvised musicians from around the city. For only £6, check out exciting music from a revolving line-up of innovative performers digging into standards and new music alongside DJs spinning vinyl until the early hours. A relaxed atmosphere and an opportunity to be part of the extended Vortex community.

Herbie Hopkins is a songwriter from Leeds. Renowned improviser and drummer, Mark Sanders, described his work as ‘adventurous and daring’.

His new album, ‘Alex’, is about anatomy, nocturnal landscapes, and personal catharsis. New single, 'What Am I Doing Here? (lie)', will be released March 21st, 2025.

Recorded by Chris Sharkey (engineer), accompanied by Matthew Bourne (piano) and Harry Souter (guitar, percussion); ‘Alex’ combines vivid song writing, haunting improvisation, and raw found-sound-samples.
