    Anika Moa

    Pop

Anika Moa is the compete artist: feisty, clever, charismatic and funny; a singer songwriter and hardened touring artist; a public speaker and in recent years has become a television personality in her native New Zealand.

Needless to say, she is extremely hard working.

In her amazing career now spanning 19 years, she has released five studio albums and two Songs for Bubbas albums.  She has toured her music round every corner of her native New Zealand as well as playing in Europe and America.

Back in 1999, Anika was spotted by Atlantic Records and became the youngest Kiwi artist to be signed to a major American record company. She was catapulted from her hometown of Christchurch to the bright lights of New York at just 18 and recorded her debut album 'Thinking Room' with Australian producer Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave, PJ Harvey). Back in New Zealand the album ricocheted to number one and her stellar career began.

She decided to take a different tack for her second album, ‘Stolen Hill’, recording many songs in Maori, and since then has followed her muse wherever it takes her, releasing three more studio albums and then in 2013, following the birth of her children, developing the phenomenally successful ‘Songs for Bubbas’ project.

Anika Moa has continued to push boundaries and in 2015 she thought she’d give television a go.  Well, not exactly television, more online interviews at first. The ‘Face to Face’ series was frank and funny and a little bit serious at times.  The production values were rough and ready but they found an audience and caught the attention of broadcasting scouts.  These humble beginnings led to her first sojourn into real TV with her live studio show, ‘All Talk With Anika Moa’, hitting screens via Maori TV (New Zealand) in 2017.

Momentum gathered quickly and this year Moa moved channels to TVNZ with her new show, ‘Anika Moa Unleashed’.  She was let loose on high profile New Zealanders, visiting them in their own environments.  The show is a mix of informative interviews full of comedy and questions daring to go where no one else dares to go.  The ‘Unleashed’ season has also lead to a stint of live presenting on the prime time current affairs show ‘Seven Sharp’, for whom she covers stories of interest and interviews both local and international musicians (Ed Sheeran, Celine Dion) for the show.

On top of all that, in 2018 there have been festival slots and shows for Adults, as well as a season of children’s shows during the Auckland Arts Festival.
